Gas Monkey is poised to make headlines at Le Mans this month, with the popular energy drink and lifestyle brand set to sponsor Murphy Prototype’s LMP2 contender in the French endurance classic.

The familiar green, black and white colors of Gas Monkey Energy are in the process of being applied to the team’s Oreca 03R Nissan, which was spotted Wednesday at Circuit de la Sarthe.

Jeroen Bleekemolen, Marc Goossens and Ben Keating will pilot the entry, with Keating reportedly bringing the backing with him from his IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Dodge Viper GT3-R program with Riley Motorsports.

Sportscar365 understands a formal announcement about the Le Mans sponsorship and a related promotional tie-in is expected to be made in the coming days.

The Irish squad is coming off a productive test at Barcelona, which saw both Keating and Bleekemolen turn their first laps in the car, ahead of this weekend’s official test day. The test also marked Keating’s first time in a LMP2 car.

“The test went well,” Keating said. “It’s hard to know how well with no other cars to compare with, but both Jeroen and I were comfortable in the car.

“I feel really good about driving the car in the test… The greatest thing about this all is the fact that it is fun to have a new experience.”

Bleekemolen, meanwhile, is a former LMP2 class winner at Le Mans, having scored top honors in 2008 in a Porsche RS Spyder.

All three drivers will be flying overnight from this weekend’s WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race in Detroit to take part in Sunday’s test day.
