Ford’s new Mustang GT3 will be formally presented at the joint IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and FIA World Endurance Championship event at Sebring next March, it has been confirmed.

The Multimatic-built car, which was teased in a promotional video during the launch of the 2024 Mustang last month, is set to begin testing either later this year or in early 2023, ahead of its race debut in the 2024 Rolex 24 at Daytona.

“Bill Ford and Jim Farley are racers and they are totally committed to having the seventh-generation Mustang raced by customers in every class possible, all over the world; it’s a fantastic vision,” said Multimatic’s VP of special vehicles operations Larry Holt.

“I am proud that Multimatic has been chosen to help execute a part of that vision with the development of the GT3 and GT4 cars.

“But as Mr. Ford stated as he closed the evening of celebrating the new car’s launch, what Ford really wants is to be back at Le Mans, this time with Mustang! Ditto from my side of the partnership.”

While Multimatic will operate a two-car factory GTD Pro effort in the WeatherTech Championship, works entries will not be allowed in the GT3 class at Le Mans or in the WEC, requiring the use of customer teams, which the program is largely based around.

In addition to the GT3 version of the car, Multimatic is also creating a new Mustang GT4, which will build on the development and racing successes of the present generation racer, which most recently dominated the Michelin Pilot Challenge race at Virginia International Raceway.

The GT4 will be available for customers to race later in the 2023 season.
