Iron Lynx has confirmed a complete overhaul of the driver lineup for its No. 60 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo for the remainder of the FIA World Endurance Championship season as a result of Claudio Schiavoni’s injury, starting at the upcoming 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Schiavoni was initially absent for the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps after picking up what the team described as a “physical issue” ahead of the European Le Mans Series round at Paul Ricard.
While Schiavoni initially set a target of returning at Le Mans, Iron Lynx confirmed on Tuesday that the Bronze-rated driver and team stalwart has been ruled out of both Le Mans as well as the subsequent round at Sao Paulo.
Therefore, the decision was made to pull out from the remainder of the campaign and install an all-new lineup “to provide consistency for the final part of the year.”
Andrew Gilbert, Fran Rueda and Iron Lynx ELMS racer Lorcan Hanafin will instead step into the No. 60 car, with all three drivers making their Le Mans debut next week as well.
Gilbert and Rueda have been regular co-drivers in a variety of championships since the 44-year-old gentleman driver stepped up from Ferrari single-make competition in 2022.
So far this season, they have competed in ELMS in a Kessel Racing Ferrari 296 GT3, while also racing an Optimum Motorsport McLaren 720S GT3 Evo in the Asian Le Mans Series.
Notably, both Rueda and Hanafin are categorized as Silver by the FIA, making the No. 60 Mercedes-AMG the only car in the 24-car LMGT3 field at next week’s running of the French endurance classic that does not feature a Gold or Platinum-rated driver.
