Iron Lynx is likely to represent Lamborghini in the LMGT3 category of the FIA World Endurance Championship next year, alongside the Lamborghini Iron Lynx Hypercar program.

The Italian squad, which currently campaigns a pair of Porsche 911 RSR-19s in GTE-Am, looks set to transition into the FIA and ACO’s new GT3-based category next year, with Lamborghini motorsport boss Giorgio Sanna all but confirming its presence.

Speaking with Sportscar365 during last weekend’s CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa, Sanna indicated plans of taking up the positions on the LMGT3 grid, which will be limited to two cars per manufacturer for the full WEC season.

Per series rules, manufacturers then select the customer teams that will represent the brand in the class.

“The plan is with at least with two cars, because this looks like this will be the number of cars eligible for every manufacturer,” said Sanna.

“We will announce the WEC program for the LMGT3 within the end of the season but we’ll have at least two cars doing the full season.”

When asked if Iron Lynx will be the team representing Lamborghini in the class, Sanna replied with: “Probably, yes.”

The Andrea Piccini-led operation is understood to likely split its entries between Iron Lynx and the Iron Dames, as it has in previous WEC seasons with Ferrari before switching to Porsche this year.

Matteo Cressoni, Claudio Schiavoni and Porsche-affiliated driver Alessio Picariello are drivers of the No. 60 Iron Lynx effort this year, with Sarah Bovy, Rahel Frey and Michelle Gatting in the Iron Dames effort.

Lamborghini to Remain Committed to “Strategic” GT3 Championships

Sanna, meanwhile, confirmed a continued presence with the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 in its strategic championships, such as Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

It will also be eligible in the European Le Mans Series for the first time, where he expects multiple customer entries.

“We’ll continue to be committed in IMSA, in GTD Pro and GTD classes and also the European Le Mans Series, we have many requests from our customer teams looking to enter in the series,” Sanna said.

“We will continue to race [in GTWC Europe], always with the same commitment. We’ll have Pro cars next year, as we will have to continue to have Silver and Pro-Am.

“GT World Challenge for us is always a strategic platform for customer racing. Honestly, it’s one of the best.

“We will see how many entries will be possible to manage.”
