KCMG Switches to ORECA, Submits LMP2 Entry

KCMG will make the switch from Morgan to ORECA LMP2 machinery in 2014, having announced Tuesday a new partnership with the French constructor.

The Hong Kong-based team, which contested the Asian Le Mans Series, Six Hours of Silverstone and 24 Hours of Le Mans last year, has committed to a full-season FIA WEC effort with an Oreca 03 Nissan in LMP2.

“As an Asian-based team, it has always been our objective to expand our motorsport initiatives to a global scale and WEC has given us the opportunity to do so,” said KCMG Managing Director Paul Ip.

“The progress that we’ve shown in the past year since our debut in Silverstone has encouraged us to continue our campaign in Le Mans Prototype racing.

“Our plan this year is to extend our presence worldwide by committing to the season of the World Championship. More so, we are happy to expand our initiatives in this motorsport discipline with our new partner ORECA.”

KCMG becomes the first Asian team to run an Oreca 03, on the heels of the manufacturer’s partnership with Muscle Milk Pickett Racing in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship.

“Paul Ip and his squad are very ambitious,” said Hugues de Chaunac. “Our first meetings have been very constructive and positive.

“Today we are hoping to establish a relationship over time in order to meet high aims. KCMG can make his mark on Chinese motorsports history in endurance. The team intends to conquer endurance and we are determined to support that process.”

No word has been given on the driver lineup for KCMG’s effort, or its potential return to the Asian Le Mans Series.
