Lamborghini has confirmed its technical partnership with Ligier Automotive for the Italian manufacturer’s LMDh program.

As previously reported by Sportscar365, the two organizations will work together on the yet-to-be-named prototype that’s set to debut in 2024 in both the FIA World Endurance Championship and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

While having been absent from top-level prototype competition in recent years, the French constructor has maintained a strong presence in sports car racing and open-wheel competition through multiple projects including LMP2, LMP3 and single-make series.

Between its base in Magny-Cours and North American subsidiary in North Carolina, Ligier has built more than 500 race cars.

Ligier has already been involved in the WEC’s Hypercar class as a technical supplier to Peugeot’s soon-to-be-launched 9X8 Le Mans Hypercar program.

“We are extremely proud that Lamborghini has selected Ligier Automotive for its LMDh program,” said Ligier Automotive President Jacques Nicolet.

“Proportionally, we have remained in our respective fields of activity as companies on a human scale. A commitment to reaching determined objectives in record time is a priority for our entire staff.

“Ligier is a burgeoning company, and this decision by Lamborghini honors us and confirms our strategic direction in France and the United States.”

With Lamborghini’s commitment, all four of the licensed LMP2 constructors will have LMDh projects by 2024.

Both the BMW and Cadillac LMDh cars will feature Dallara chassis, with Acura and Alpine teaming up with ORECA and Porsche having partnered with Multimatic.

“We are glad to announce the technical partnership with Ligier on the LMDh project,” said Head of Lamborghini Motorsport Giorgio Sanna.

“As in Lamborghini Squadra Corse we have found in Magny-Cours a team of young, competent and motivated people.

“We already feel as one team and we look forward for the next challenges in front of us.”

Sanna previously told Sportscar365 that the Lamborghini LMDh car will debut sometime in the first quarter of 2024, with an intensive testing and development program set to kick off early next year.
