Toyota FIA World Endurance Championship reserve driver Ritomo Miyata is set for his first miles in the GR010 Hybrid Le Mans Hypercar in a test this week at Aragon.

Miyata is scheduled to join the Japanese marque’s six regular WEC drivers for the three-day test at the Spanish circuit beginning on Wednesday, as confirmed to Sportscar365 by a spokesperson for Toyota Gazoo Racing Europe.

Toyota revealed on social media last week that Miyata had been in the TGR-E factory in Cologne last week for a seat fit and simulator duties.

The test opportunity comes after Miyata was named as Toyota’s new WEC reserve for the 2024 season in November, replacing Kazuki Nakajima in the role.

Miyata was first added to Toyota’s revived WEC Challenge program last year off the back of his success in Super Formula and SUPER GT.

He went on to become the youngest driver to win both domestic Japanese titles in the same year, and the first to do so as a works Toyota driver.

TGR-E technical director Pascal Vasselon explained last year that only a clash with the final round of SUPER GT at Mobility Resort Motegi prevented Miyata from being given a first run in the GR010 Hybrid in the post-season rookie test at Bahrain.

A further opportunity to drive the GR010 could come during the test day for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, slated to take place on June 9.

Miyata will embark on twin campaigns in Formula 2 and the European Le Mans Series this season, the latter with LMP2 squad Cool Racing.

The 24-year-old will also participate in the Rolex 24 at Daytona later this month as part of the Vasser Sullivan Lexus team in the GTD class.
