Reigning 24 Hours of Le Mans GTE-Am class winner Marco Sorensen will return to defend his victory in this year’s edition of the race with Danish squad GMB Motorsport.

Sorensen has been confirmed as the third and final member of the team’s lineup for its Le Mans debut, sharing the No. 55 Aston Martin Vantage GTE with Jens Reno Moller and Gustav Birch.

The Aston Martin factory driver won the GTE-Am category last June sharing a TF Sport Vantage with Ben Keating and Henrique Chaves.

Sorensen and Keating went on to clinch the FIA World Endurance Championship class title, before Keating switched to Corvette Racing for the current season.

Sorensen is not racing full-time in the WEC this year but instead has an IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GTD drive with The Heart of Racing.

“Marco is one the fastest Aston Martin drivers and has shown his class in endurance racing for years through victories in some of the grandest 24-hour races and of course three world titles,” said GMB Motorsport sporting director Henrik Lundgaard.

“When the possibility of a collaboration arose, we did not hesitate for a second.

“It’s not every day you get the opportunity to make an agreement with a defending Le Mans champion.

“We are looking forward to seeing, what this alliance can amount to at the race this summer. We are very excited.”

Reigning Michelin Le Mans Cup GT3 champion GMB is working with two WEC GTE-Am champions this year for its first and only season competing on the GTE platform.

As previously announced, Sorensen’s two-time WEC co-champion Nicki Thiim will join Birch and Moller for the European Le Mans Series.

Thiim is unavailable for GMB at Le Mans due to his full-season WEC commitments with NortWest AMR.
