United Autosports has completed its LMP2 driver lineup for the upcoming FIA World Endurance Championship season with the signing of British teenager Frederick Lubin.

The 18-year-old is set for his sports car racing debut in the No. 22 Oreca 07 Gibson, which he will share with 2019-20 class champions Filipe Albuquerque and Phil Hanson.

Lubin raced in Euroformula Open last year, finishing fourth in the standings, and also sampled Vector Sport’s Oreca at the WEC end-of-season rookie test in Bahrain.

After getting more LMP2 testing mileage with United at Portimao, Lubin signed on with the U.K.-based team for 2023 as the designated Silver-rated driver in the No. 22 car.

“I can’t wait to get started … I think it’s going to be an incredible year,” he said.

“Massive thank you to Richard [Dean, United team principal] for giving me the opportunity, and the rest of the United Autosports team – I’ll see you in Sebring.”

United announced most of its WEC driving squad last summer, with Albuquerque and Hanson being confirmed seven months ago, however the slot for their co-driver remained open until Lubin’s signing.

The team’s sister No. 23 Oreca will be driven by reigning IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship DPi champions Tom Blomqmvist and Oliver Jarvis, along with Silver-rated Josh Pierson.

Giedo van der Garde and Ben Hanley will replace GTP stars Blomqvist and Albuquerque respectively for the two WEC rounds that clash with WeatherTech Championship fixtures.

“The WEC gets stronger and more competitive each year, but we have a driver line up in both our cars which are capable of winning,” said Dean.

“Car No. 22 has our previous WEC titles winners in Phil and Filipe and an exciting young talent in Freddie. We expect to be fighting for podiums at each event.”
