Emil Frey Commits to GT Open, Drops Blancpain GT

Emil Frey Racing will focus on International GT Open with its new Lamborghini program this season, instead of returning to the Blancpain GT Series.

The Swiss team, which announced a switch to Lamborghini machinery from Lexus last month, will enter a pair of Huracan GT3 Evos in GT Open.

Team regulars Albert Costa and Norbert Siedler, who were previously part of Emil Frey’s Lexus program, have been confirmed for the program.

Costa will be joined by Giacomo Altoe who has already driven Lamborghini GT3s for Target Racing and Ebimotors this year after graduating from Super Trofeo competition.

Mikael Grenier will join Siedler for the upcoming pre-season test at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya but hasn’t been confirmed for the full season.

“We are very excited about the new challenge this year”, said team principal Lorenz Frey-Hilti.

“We were already taking part in the International GT Open with Lexus two years ago. Further to that, we finished the season in third place overall, very close to the overall champions.

“We are looking forward to a revenge with the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo this year.

“This will be a huge challenge for us, because the competition is strong, and we are participating with a race car that is still new to us. I am curious to see what the test days will show.”
