Falken Motorsports will become the first customer team to race next year’s Porsche 911 GT3 R when it lines up for this weekend’s NLS round at the Nürburgring.
The team, which is run by German outfit Schnabl Engineering with backing from tire company Falken, will campaign a single Type-992 Porsche in the four-hour DMV Muensterland Cup race on Saturday.
Klaus Bachler and Porsche factory driver Julien Andlauer are due to share the wheel of the No. 4 Porsche, which will run in the SP-X category for non-homologated cars.
Porsche’s latest GT3 product made its race debut two weeks ago in the hands of factory affiliate Manthey Racing.
It finished third overall in the hands of works drivers Andlauer and Frederic Makowiecki, in an outing that served as a test in race conditions.
Falken will also enter the penultimate race of the NLS season with a 991.2-generation Porsche 911 GT3 R that will be driven by Tim Heinemann and Martin Ragginger.
Two-time DTM Trophy Heinemann is set for his maiden Nürburgring Nordschleife appearance in a GT3 car, having previously made appearances in a KTM X-Bow GT2.
Falken plans to campaign the new Porsche in an ‘Erlkoenig’ livery, which is the same design that it used when it ran the Type-991.2 machine for the first time.
