The grids for the eclectic mix of cars in the other classes of the Nürburgring 24 have been set after a flurry of improvements in the final Qualifying 3 session.

Quickest of the cars outside of the divisions eligible for Top Qualifying was the No. 632 Black Falcon Team Fanatec Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car of Manuel Metzger, who posted an 8:37.721 to be only around 25 seconds slower than the best of the SP9 GT3 machines.

The No. 632 entry was part of the AT2 class for alternatively-fuelled entries and it shaved some 20 seconds off of its previous best from Q1 in the final part of qualifying to head the division by 16 seconds from the No. 320 Four Motors Bioconcept-Car Porsche.

The fight for Cup 2 honours was far closer as the battle in the one-make Porsche 911 GT3 Cup class was split by just tenths of a second.

The No. 918 Muehlner Motorsport Porsche of Tim Scheerbarth took class pole with an 8:38.418 that was only 0.227 seconds quicker than the sister No. 904 Muehlner entry.

Next quickest of the class polesitters was Mikel Azcona in the No. 830 Hyundai Elantra N TCR (pictured above) that retained its traditional place at the head of the TCR ranks with an 8:52.718 that was around half a minute quicker than the rest of the field.

The SP10 class for homologated GT4 cars was topped by the No. 888 Hofor Racing by Bonk Motorsport BMW M4 GT4 EVO of Michael Schrey on an 8:56.664 that was 10 seconds faster than the car managed in Q1.

The No. 888 ended up nearly four seconds ahead of the similar BMW of the No. 145 Riller & Schnauck powered by Cerny Motorsport entry.

Rounding out the category polesitters in the top-50 times overall was the SP7-leading No. 91 Reiter Engineering older-generation Porsche 911 GT3 Cup that clocked an 8:58.672 to also be about half a minute faster than the class opposition.

Heavy rain arrived about halfway through the 65-minute session and that prevented any late improvements.

Attention now turns to the Top Qualifying 3 overall pole shootout, which is due to get under way at 1:35 p.m. CEST (7:35 a.m. EST).
