Marco Mapelli set the fastest lap in the opening qualifying practice session for the Nürburgring 24, leading the way in Konrad Motorsport’s Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo.

Mapelli posted a time of 8:11.428 which put the Lamborghini factory driver just under four seconds clear of Frank Stippler in the No. 5 Phoenix Racing Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo.

Third-quickest in the 90-minute session, which was held in dry conditions, was the No. 4 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo of Haupt Racing Team with Maro Engel at the wheel.

Engel produced a time of 8:17:523 that was only seven-tenths quicker than the fourth-placed KCMG Porsche 911 GT3 R driven by Dennis Olsen.

Audi Sport R8s came through in fifth and sixth, with Frederic Vervisch completing the top five in the Phoenix factory-supported car and Christopher Haase slotting in behind.

A total of 93 cars took to the track, while there were a couple of incidents including a spin into the gravel for the No. 7 Car Collection Audi of Mike David Ortmann, and a smoky incident for the Ford Mustang racing in the AT class which pulled on the GP circuit.

Next up is a three-hour qualifying practice session starting at 8:30 p.m. CEST (2:30 p.m. EST).
