The 2024 edition of the Nürburgring 24 has been pushed back by three weeks to avoid a clash with the FIA World Endurance Championship round at Spa-Francorchamps.

After it was originally scheduled to take place on the Ascension weekend of May 11-12, event organizers have announced that the date has been moved to instead take place on the weekend of Corpus Christi, May 30-June 2.

The postponement is in response to the WEC’s 2024 calendar, which announced the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps for the same weekend as the Eifel endurance classic.

N24 organizers wrote in a statement that the clash between the two events would have led to “hardly solvable problems.”

It pointed to the fact that WEC will introduce the LMGT3 category for the 2024 season, which would result in difficulties for GT3 teams and drivers competing at the N24.

“We didn’t want to impose this on our participants, nor on the endurance fans,” said race director Walter Hornung.

“Since the organizers of Rock am Ring and also the Nürburgring have been extremely flexible, we were able to make the postponement possible.”

The change means the N24 will take place only a week before the popular Rock am Ring music festival also held at the circuit, meaning setup and dismantling times need to be “drastically shortened.”

“Precisely because we know how complex the coordination with other series and individual events in GT3 racing is, we have already announced 2021 to 2028 dates for the 24h Nürburgring,” added Hornung.

“Of course, all the relevant players are aware of this so that scheduling overlaps in the international calendar are avoided and collisions with other major events at the same venue are prevented.

“We are all the happier that Rock am Ring and the Nürburgring are joining us in taking on the short-term logistical and technical challenge of having two completely different events, each with tens of thousands of spectators, take place one right after the other.”
