Shank’s Ligier Honda Retires in Hour 10 at Daytona

One of the race favorites for the 54th Rolex 24 at Daytona, the No. 60 Michael Shank Racing Ligier JS P2 Honda, has seen its hopes end in the tenth hour.

Ozz Negri had an engine failure and stopped on course, according to team principal Shank on IMSA Radio. The car was brought back to the garage for further diagnosis, and a Honda spokesperson confirmed the failure and the car’s retirement.

It has brought out the 11th and full course caution, and Negri was leading at the time following another overtake of Max Angelelli in the Wayne Taylor Racing Corvette DP.

The second Ligier Honda from Tequila Patron ESM, driven by Scott Sharp, has now moved into the overall lead.

Two other full-course cautions had flown for PC cars just prior to that, one for Kenton Koch stopping on track after the JDC/Miller Motorsports car’s reserve fuel tank kicked in before he stopped on the Bus Stop chicane, and another for Ryan Eversley in the No. 26 BAR1 Motorsports car who stopped on course at the West Hairpin.

Ferrari runs 1-2 in GT Le Mans, Lamborghini 1-2 in GT Daytona at the moment.
