A gutsy last-lap pass by Yasser Shahin on Prince Jefri Ibrahim has given Shahin and Garth Tander a dramatic victory in the second Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS race of the weekend at Mt. Panorama.

Shahin, who was in fourth with 13 minutes to go on the restart of the 60-minute contest, charged through the running order despite getting held up by traffic for nearly two laps.

He passed the No. 24 Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo of Tony Bates for second with two laps to go and quickly closed in on the No. 888 Triple Eight Engineering Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo of Ibrahim, who along with Shane van Gisbergen, won Saturday’s race.

Shahin in the No. 777 Melbourne Performance Centre-prepared Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo got around the Mercedes at Forrest’s Elbow on the final lap to take a 0.886-second win over the prince.

It marked the pairing’s third victory out of four races this season.

Bates came home third in the other MPC Audi after having the shortest pit stop time penalty out of the top-three after co-driver Chaz Mostert’s third place qualifying run on Saturday.

The additional five-second hold ultimately didn’t impact things as the safety car was deployed for a crashed Audi with 21 minutes to go, setting up for the shootout to the finish and nearly equalizing Ibrahim’s lead at the time.

The No. 4 Grove Motorsport Porsche 911 GT3 R of Stephen and Brenton Grove finished fourth overall, ahead of Brad Schumacher’s Audi R8 LMS ultra, which again took top honors in the Trophy class.

Tony Quinn finished sixth overall in his Aston Martin Vantage GT3 as the highest-placed Am entrant.
