Barwell Motorsport will contest a pair of Lamborghini’s new Huracan GT3 Evos in next year’s British GT Championship, including one car with a Squadra Corse factory driver.

The team ran the first-gen Huracan GT3 in the series between 2016 and 2018, and won the teams’ championship in 2017 while its drivers Phil Keen and Jon Minshaw racked up a total of ten race wins over the past seasons.

Jonny Cocker and Sam de Haan have been confirmed as the first driver pairing in the new cars in 2019, with the pair returning for a sophomore season with Barwell.

The second car will feature a Pro-Am pairing that includes a yet to be named factory driver.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be continuing our British GT campaign together with Sam and Barwell Motorsport in the new Huracan GT3 Evo,” said Cocker.

“It’s plain to see the development that Sam made during 2018, taking a podium at Brands Hatch being the highlight of our season.

“We knew that year one would be a learning year and year two we would be aiming for the title, and that’s exactly the mindset that we’re carrying into 2019. I can’t wait to get started!”

The British GT entry process opened on Friday, while TF Sport was the first team to commit for the upcoming season with new Aston Martins in both GT3 and GT4.

Barwell to Defend Blancpain GT Endurance Am Title

Barwell will also return to the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup with a pair of cars for the five-race schedule.

Am drivers’ champions Adrian Amstutz and Leo Machitski will join a third driver in an attempt to defend their title in one Lamborghini.

A second car will be entered in the Silver Cup with 18-year-old Sandy Mitchell again driving, with a pair of other young drivers joining him.

Michele Beretta and Martin Kodric joined the Scot in the Black Bull-sponsored Lamborghini last season.

“We are thrilled to announce the continuation of our highly successful partnership with Lamborghini with the new Huracan GT3 Evo,” said Barwell managing director Mark Lemmer.

“The Evo is exactly that, a natural evolution of what has already proved to be a fantastic car. We are also privileged to welcome back Leo, Adrian, Sam, Jonny & Sandy, as well as our main team partner, Black Bull Scotch Whisky.

“Also we can’t wait to reveal an exciting driver pairing for BGT in the coming weeks.

“We have already achieved championship success with Lamborghini, but we are keen to add more race victories & titles in our quest for further success in both the UK and Europe!”
