SKI Autosports is set to return to GT America powered by AWS with former series champion Memo Gidley behind the wheel.
The partnership brings together the 2024 championship-winning team with the 2023 championship-winning driver.
Gidley took the 2023 crown while competing with TKO Motorsports but is now set to climb behind the wheel of SKI’s Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II, replacing Johnny O’Connell.
“I’m so excited. I raced in this championship before for a couple of years, and it’s just an awesome place to be,” said Gidley.
“I initially met Kent and Melissa during my championship year, and now I’m really looking forward to working with them, getting out there, and seeing what we can do.
“I haven’t driven the Audi before, but I think the R8 will probably feel a lot like many of the rear-engine cars that I have driven in the past. When I raced against SKI Autosports back in 2023, it seemed like the Audi was really good in tight corners and very nimble, but I’m just looking forward to seeing what it feels like and just finding out where the edge is.”
Due to the lateness of this change of driver, the team will miss the West Coast portion of the season and will join the series at Circuit of The Americas in April.
“Spending time with Memo during the 2023 season gave us a keen appreciation of him both as a person and a driver,” said team owner Kent Hussey.
“We are thrilled that he has agreed to join the SKI Autosports team, and we look forward to spirited competition this season.”
