Gidley On Race 1 Pole; Tomlinson Qualifies Fourth in Ginetta GT2

Memo Gidley scored overall pole for this afternoon’s first GT America powered by AWS race of the weekend at Road America, in a hotly contested session that saw a best-ever qualifying result for a GT2 car.

Gidley, in the SRO3 class points-leading No. 56 SKI Autosports Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II, reeled off a chart-topping 2:06.428 lap time.

It was 0.305 seconds quicker than the No. 04 HP-TECH Motorsport Ferrari 296 GT3 of Tony Davis, with Ross Chouest qualifying third in the No. 50 Chouest Povoledo Racing Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R.

Ginetta chairman Lawrence Tomlinson recorded an impressive fourth quickest time overall in his Team LNT Ginetta G56 GT2 car, a season-best qualifying effort for a GT2 machine.

Tomlinson’s previous best qualifying run was seventh at Road Atlanta.

Mirco Schultis completed the overall top-five in his Callaway Corvette C7 GT3-R.

David Lecko returned to action in a spare Team LNT Ginetta GTP8 car after he crashed his primary car in the closing stages of Practice 2 on Friday.

Craig Lumsden brought up the rear of the expected 12-car starting field in his No. 610 Colorado Motorsport with Flying Lizard BMW M4 GT4 EVO.

The No. 45 Ruckus Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R Evo of Scott Blind was held for the first five minutes of the session due to incident responsibility with the No. 26 Ferraro Motorsport Ferrari of Tony Ferraro in Practice 2.
