Justin Rothberg will start this afternoon’s GT America powered by AWS race from the pole after setting the quickest lap in qualifying at Road America.
The Turner Motorsport driver drove his No. 29 BMW M4 GT3 to a quick lap of 2:06.019 in the 15-minute session.
It was 0.420 seconds quicker than the No. 14 GMG Racing Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II of James Sofronas.
GMG teammate Kyle Washington will start third overall and in the SRO3 class in his No. 32 Porsche 911 GT3 R, ahead of championship rivals Jason Daskalos and Johnny O’Connell, who completed the too-five.
Isaac Sherman returned to top form in the GT4 class, claiming another class pole position in his No. 098 Rotek Racing Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport.
Sherman’s 2:16.592 lap time was more than seven-tenths clear of second-placed Curt Swearingin in the No. 7 ACI Motorsports Porsche.
Gray Newell qualified third in class in the No. 25 Heart of Racing Team Aston Martin Vantage GT4.
A total of 16 cars are set for action in the pair of 40-minute races this weekend, with both the No. 8 Flying Lizard Motorsports BMW of Elias Sabo and Bryson Morris’ No. 08 DXDT Racing Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R having taken part in the practice sessions only.
Additionally, the No. 50 Chouest Povoledo Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo of Ross Chouest has been withdrawn from the entire event after its GTA car hit mechanical trouble.
It came after its Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS car was involved in a massive accident on Friday.
Race 1 for GT America gets underway at 12:55 p.m. CDT with live coverage on SRO’s GT World YouTube channel and on Twitch.
