British squad Toro Verde GT has become the first team to announce a program with the new Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo GT2 variant.

David Fairbrother and Total 24 Hours of Spa class winner Jordan Witt will team up for a full-season entry into the GT2 European Series, which begins at Monza next weekend.

The Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo GT2 is a modified version of the 620 hp Huracan Super Trofeo EVO single-make racer conforming to SRO Motorsports Group’s GT2 rules.

Lamborghini has yet to release technical details of its GT2 adaptation, which was revealed by Sportscar365 last October.

A Lamborghini GT2 took part in last month’s Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS official test at Paul Ricard for Balance of Performance evaluations.

“I’m really excited to be joining the grid for the 2021 GT2 European Series with Toro Verde GT,” said Fairbrother, who entered a Super Trofeo Europe round last year.

“The Lamborghini Huracan GT2 is a brilliant car, and with an experienced racer in Jordan alongside me, we’ll be pushing hard to bring home some strong results.

“Thanks to Pall-Ex for their part in putting this program on the grid – now for the fun part! It’s exciting to be here at the start of a brand-new series, and I can’t wait to get going in Monza.”

An entry list for the GT2 European Series opener at Monza has yet to be released, although two other teams have announced entries with Audi R8 LMS GT2s.

FIA World Endurance Championship squad High Class Racing is running Le Mans competitors Anders Fjordbach and Mark Patterson, while Peter Guelinckx and Bert Longin will drive for PK Carsport by Heinz.

The GT2 European Series is a new championship for 2021 and was established as part of a restructuring for the amateur driver-focused GT Sports Club Europe competition.

This year GT Sports Club Europe features two distinct series: the sprint-format GT2 European Series and the endurance-format Fanatec GT Rebellion Series for GT3 cars.
