Leist Leads Porsche 1-2 in Second Barber Practice

Matheus Leist led a 1-2 for Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport machinery in the second and final Pirelli GT4 America practice session prior to qualifying and the first race of the weekend at Barber Motorsports Park.

The ex-IndyCar series driver reeled off a 1:28.341 in his No. 47 Nolasport Porsche to edge out Porsche Motorsport North America Selected Driver Ryan Yardley, in the No. 25 ACI Motorsports entry, by 0.107 seconds.

Westin Workman was quickest of the Silver class entries, having set the third best overall time in the session, with two more Porsches, the No. 028 RS1 and No. 7 ACI entries, completing the overall top-five, thanks to laps by Luca Mars and Trenton Estep, respectively.

The No. 03 Precision Racing LA Toyota of Ryan Eversley was sixth overall and third quickest in Pro-Am, ahead of Michael Cooper’s Blackdog Racing McLaren Artura GT4.

Thursday’s pace-setting Advance Motorsports McLaren, meanwhile, was eighth overall on the time charts.

The No. 21 ACI Porsche of Alex Garcia continued to lead the way in the Am class.

VPX Motorsport’s entry again did not run, although team owner Vince Partap told Sportscar365 they are in the process of sourcing a replacement car, with the aim to make qualifying later today.

While the session ran without any red flags, several cars were served with pit lane-related infractions, including the No. 7 ACI Porsche, which had a three-minute stop-and-hold penalty for improper pit lane protocol.

Qualifying is scheduled for 12:05 p.m. CST followed by Race 1 of the weekend at 3:30 p.m., which will be streamed live on SRO’s GT World YouTube channel.
