Random Vandals Racing came out on top in two of the three Pirelli GT4 America classes in the second race of the weekend at Sebring International Raceway.
Both the No. 97 BMW M4 GT4 EVO of Kevin Boehm and Kenton Koch, as well as the sister No. 94 entry of Sam Craven and Josh Green, took overall/Silver and Pro-Am class victories, respectively, following a mid-race full-course caution and restart.
Koch, who started 11th overall, charged his way up to fourth prior to the stop, which saw the No. 97 BMW jump ahead of the class-leading No. 39 Van der Steur Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT4 Evo of Max Hewitt in the pit lane.
An issue for the No. 17 Rigid Speed Company BMW of Lucas Catania, who pulled off-track, resulted in the yellow and subsequent restart with 19 minutes to go.
Koch and Boehm provisionally take over the Silver class points lead as a result of the perfect weekend.
Michael Cooper, in the No. 33 Blackdog Racing McLaren Artura GT4, led the first half of the race and maintained the position during its driver swap to co-driver Tony Gaples, who took the restart out front.
Gaples ended up finishing second in Pro-Am, in front of the No. 69 JTR Motorsports Engineering Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2 that was started by Parker Thompson.
The No. 68 RAFA Racing Team Toyota of Gresham Wagner and Tyler Gonzalez finished third overall and second in Silver, ahead of Colin Garett and Zac Anderson’s No. 52 Auto Technic Racing BMW.
Danny Dyszelski and Alex Ellis completed the top-five overall in their VPX Racing Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport, ahead of Gaples and the Van der Steur Aston of Hewitt.
Am class honors again went to the No. 36 BimmerWorld BMW of James Clay and Charlie Postins, in a photo finish with the No. 606 Thunder Bunny Racing Toyota of Laura Hayes.
The margin of victory in Am was a mere 0.051 seconds and marked a sweep of the weekend for all three teams and BMW.
It came after the No. 98 Random Vandals BMW of Paul Sparta faded in the closing minutes, including an accident for the team owner/driver with two laps to go that also involved the No. 72 RAFA Racing Team Toyota of Anthony Geraci, a fellow Am class competitor.
Several other cars found the barriers in the second half of the race, including Eddie Killeen’s No. 37 Dome Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT4, which didn’t result in a full-course caution.
RESULTS: Race 2
