Westin Workman will start this afternoon’s Lone Star Enduro at Circuit of The Americas after qualifying for the Pirelli GT4 America round was abandoned due to a red flag for an accident by Jack Parriott.
Parriott lost control of his No. 73 Kellymoss Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport in the Esses and made contact with the barriers just prior to the halfway mark of the 15-minute session.
While the second-generation driver climbed from the car under his own power, the session did not restart due to extensive cleanup and barrier damage.
Workman was already atop the time charts, thanks to a 2:15.475 lap time in his Silver class points-leading No. 68 RAFA Racing Team Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2, but all times from the session were not counted per a SRO America spokesperson.
This is because the majority of the 28-car field were unable to set representative lap times due to the timing of the red flag.
Article 28.18 in the GT4 America sporting regulations reads: “If for any reason the qualifying session for Driver 1 cannot take place or is stopped before all cars in that session have the opportunity to set a time as determined by the race director at his sole discretion, the best time from each Driver 1 during Practice 2 will be used to set the grid for Race 1.”
Workman, however, will still start from pole after he also set the fastest lap in Practice 2 on Friday.
While the grid has yet to be officially confirmed by race control, the No. 19 Auto Technic Racing BMW M4 GT4 EVO should line up alongside Workman on the front row, thanks to Stevan McAleer’s Pro-Am pace-setting time in Practice 2.
The No. 51 Auto Technic BMW, No. 7 ACI Motorsports Porsche and No. 39 Dome Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT4, will provisionally start third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
BimmerWorld’s No. 36 BMW, meanwhile, is expected to lead the Am class to the green for this evening’s race, which gets underway at 5 p.m. CST with live coverage on SRO’s GT World YouTube channel and on Twitch.
