Reining Total 24 Hours of Spa winner GPX Racing has unveiled a set of Targa Florio-inspired retro liveries for its trio of Porsche 911 GT3 Rs.

GPX previously confirmed that it would field two full-season Porsches in the Pro class of GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Endurance Cup this year, while its third car would compete in select races.

All three cars bear liveries resembling the schemes worn by the Gulf-sponsored John Wyer team’s Porsche 908/03s that contested the 1970 Targa Florio half a century ago.

The No. 12 GT3’s design refers to the winning 908 driven by Jo Siffert and Brian Redman, while the No. 36 is a nod to the car that finished second in the hands of Leo Kinnunen and Pedro Rodriguez.

GPX Racing’s additional car resembles the livery of the 908 in which Bjorn Waldegaard and Richard Attwood finished fifth overall.

The car numbers also pay homage to those used by the three JWA crews in 1970.

Porsche-affiliated drivers Matt Campbell, Mathieu Jaminet and Patrick Pilet will co-drive the No. 12 machine in GTWC Europe this year, while Romain Dumas and Thomas Preining will share the No. 40 with Louis Deletraz.

Intercontinental GT Challenge powered by Pirelli champion Dennis Olsen will be on hand to replace Deletraz at any rounds that clash with the Formula 2 Championship.

Olsen, who was originally named as part of the No. 40 crew’s full-season lineup, is currently slated to join GPX for the 6 Hours of the Nürburging which falls on the same August weekend as the Formula 2 round at Monza.

Deletraz had already been named as Olsen’s replacement for the 1000km of Paul Ricard before the race was postponed from May to November during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The driver lineup and program details of the third GPX Racing Porsche have yet to be confirmed.

“We’re particularly proud to commemorate the exploit achieved by Porsche half-a-century ago in such an extraordinary event as the Targa Florio,” said team principal Pierre Brice-Mena.

“I hope we will prove ourselves worthy of the task on the circuits of the championships that we’re tackling beginning with the Imola GTWC meeting on 25-26 July.”
