The pole-sitting No. 32 Team WRT BMW M4 GT3 has been eliminated from the Repco Bathurst 12 Hour following a heavy accident by Charles Weerts in the fifth hour.

Weerts and the No. 56 Ginetta G55 GT4 of Colin White collided entering The Cutting, sending the Pro class BMW up onto the wall in dramatic fashion.

The Belgian driver had been running inside the top-top of the race at the time of the accident, which brought out the race’s fifth safety car period.

Weerts climbed from the car under his own power.

It led to a series of pit stops for the leading GT3 contenders, although several cars, including the No. 77 Craft-Bamboo Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo and No. 75 SunEnergy1 Racing Mercedes-AMG, stayed out and ran 1-2.

The. 912 Manthey EMA Porsche 911 GT3 R of Matt Campbell had been out front prior to the yellow, in what had been a dominant performance by the German squad so far.
