Tresor and Attempto Racing have jointly confirmed plans to run two factory-driven Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo IIs in next weekend’s Kyalami 9 Hour.

The two organizations, which teamed up for the first time at the Gulf 12 Hours last December, will represent the German manufacturer in the Pro class for the second round of the Intercontinental GT Challenge powered by Pirelli season.

Mattia Drudi, Ricardo Feller and Patric Niederhauser will share the No. 66 Audi, while the No. 99 car will be driven by Markus Winkelhock, Dennis Marschall and Alex Aka.

Drudi and Marschall teamed up with Kelvin van der Linde at the Gulf 12H but their podium-contending Tresor-Attempto Audi retired after contact with another car.

Aka, meanwhile, formed part of the team’s independent entry for last season’s IGTC finale at Yas Marina Circuit. The son of Attempto team boss Arkin Aka is the only member of the Kyalami lineup who is not an Audi Sport factory driver.

Tresor made its GT3 debut last year when Car Collection Motorsport ran its multi-car Audi program in Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS.

The Italian organization, which is owned by former driver Ferdinando Geri, is now working with Attempto in a partnership that is expected to extend into the European season.

“This is a charming and very challenging race,” said Geri.

“I am personally bound to Kyalami even if it is a new track for us and, despite some of the drivers having already raced on this track, we will need to work carefully to identify the best setup, since balance will be crucial here.

“A high-level list of entries is expected, so it will be a spectacular challenge and we will try to get every detail right to allow our crews to express their full potential and play a leading role on the track.”

Tresor Attempto Racing’s Pro-class effort for Kyalami comes despite Audi Sport confirming that it is not registered as a points-paying manufacturer in this year’s IGTC.

Kyalami marks the second round of the season, after the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour where Melbourne Performance Centre fielded a factory-supported Audi entry.

Unlike the MPC effort for Bathurst, the two Attempto-run cars will not race under the Audi Sport Team banner which typically denotes extended support from the factory.
