The SRO Motorsports Group’s GT Sports Club series will expand to three continents next year as the base platform for GT2 cars, with separate championships in Europe, North America and Asia.

The series currently serves as a support for the Blancpain GT Series in Europe for Bronze-rated drivers in GT3 cars, although it will change to accommodate GT2 cars next year.

It’s understood GT2 and GT3 cars, reserved for Am drivers, will both be permitted in the European championship, while the North American and Asian series will be solely for GT2 cars.

GT Sports Club is reserved for “real Gentlemen” drivers, with an overall classification for FIA Bronze drivers and sub-classes for ‘Titanium’ drivers aged 50 and over and ‘Iron’ drivers aged 60 and over.

It offers two races of 25 and 40 minutes in a condensed two-day weekend format.

Two GT2 models have been released so far by Porsche and Audi, with Porsche running a field of 911 GT2 RS Clubsports and similar 935s in the first GT2 demonstration race at Spa this weekend.

Both models are set to compete as part of the current format Blancpain GT Sports Club at Barcelona this September, while a third GT2 manufacturer will reveal its car at that same event, SRO founder and CEO Stephane Ratel confirmed.

He also said to expect a further three GT2 cars to be launched throughout 2020, bringing the field up to six models.
