Parker Delong narrowly edged out Jeremy Fletcher to claim a breakthrough pole position for this evening’s Toyota GR Cup North America race at Road America.
Delong, who is pulling double duty this weekend in making his Pirelli GT4 America debut, reeled off a chart-topping 2:30.429 in his TechSport Racing Toyota GR 86 Cup to edge out Fletcher by just 0.037 seconds.
Fletcher’s time, which provisionally put him on pole, came after getting a tow from title rival Spike Kohlbecker, who ended up third in the No. 15 TechSport entry.
Delong became only the third different pole sitter this year, after Fletcher’s previous five poles and three from Kohlbecker.
Will Robusto qualified fourth in the No. 2 RVA Graphics Motorsports by Speed Syndicate entry, although drove into the Turn 4 run-off late in the session with a possible issue.
Ethan Goulart completed the top-five in his BSI Racing entry, ahead of teammate Ethan Ayars.
The first GR Cup race of the weekend is scheduled for 5:10 p.m. CST with live coverage on SRO’s GT World YouTube channel and on GRCup.com.
