Westin Workman capped off his championship-winning season with a sixth Toyota GR Cup North America victory of the year in Sunday’s season-ending race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which ended under yellow.
Two separate multi-car accidents with ten minutes to go saw the 45-minute contest end behind the safety car due to excessive cleanup required, handing the victory to the BSI Racing driver.
It came in an incident-filled race that saw two other yellows, including one for the No. 46 Lucas Racing Toyota GR86 Cup of Lucas Weisenberg, who came together with the No. 22 car of Jeremy Fletcher on Lap 12 that led to a second penalty for Fletcher.
Weisenberg and Workman exchanged the lead multiple times during the green flag action after both drivers passed pole-sitter Henry Drury at the start.
The No. 55 RVA Graphics Motorsports by Speed Syndicate entry of Spike Kohlbecker finished second, with Jaxon Bell, who was crashed out of Race 1 by Ethan Goulart, completing the podium.
It was enough for Bell to provisionally finish second in the championship.
Goulart, who started from the pit lane as part of his incident responsibility penalty that was reviewed post-race on Saturday, was on of the race’s five retirements after an accident in the closing stages.
The No. 2 Toyota of Will Robusto and pole-sitter Drury completed the top-five in the race, which was run in damp conditions.
