Max Schweid beat Jeremy Fletcher and Will Robusto to pole for this afternoon’s second Toyota GR Cup North America race at Road America, which came in a dramatic final lap run.
The RVA Graphics Motorsports by Speed Syndicate driver reeled off a 2:30.416 lap time in his No. 98 Toyota GR 86 Cup car on his second and final flying lap to edge out Race 1 winner Fletcher by 0.052 seconds.
It marked Schweid’s first pole of the season.
Teammate Robusto will line up behind him on the grid in third, with Parker Delong and Malbec Ramos completing the top-five.
Points leader Spike Kohlbecker, who finished second in Saturday’s mixed-condition race, wil start from seventh on the grid in his No. 15 TechSport Racing entry.
Qualifying was halted just two minuted into the session when the No. 70 Nitro Motorsports entry of Jay Thomas stopped on track and needed to be recovered.
It resulted in a restart with six minutes and 40 minutes to go.
The second and final GR Cup race of the weekend is set for a 12 p.m. CST start with live coverage on GRCup.com and SRO’s GT World YouTube channel.
