Adelson “Extraordinarily Happy” With Wright’s Re-Expansion

Adam Adelson said he’s been “extraordinarily happy” with Wright Motorsports’ “re-expansion effort” that has seen multiple customer programs in SRO America competition.

The Ohio-based team, which Adelson purchased from team founder John Wright in late 2024, has fielded two Porsche 911 GT3 R Evos in both GT World Challenge America powered by AWS, as well as an entry in GT America powered by AWS this year.

Its No. 31 entry of Dave Musial Jr. and Porsche Motorsport North America Selected Driver Ryan Yardley head into the Desder Indianapolis 8 Hour in the fight for the GTWC America Pro-Am class championship.

The duo are joined by IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GTP runner-up Laurin Heinrich this weekend.

“There’s two different hats that I’m wearing when I answer this question,” Adelson told Sportscar365 when asked to rate the season.

“From a team ownership perceptive, I’m extraordinarily happy with the re-expansion effort.

“We went from approximately one-and-a-half programs being run last year to five full season programs, which is not a small jump.

“We had a lot of ex-crew and team members want to come back. That was massively helpful because, for the most part, it was plug and play.

“I’m really, really happy with the quality of service that we’re providing to our customers. I don’t think it’s detracted anything from our IMSA program either.

“That makes me extraordinarily happy. For our customer cars, three of the four has made the podium and one of them is in championship contention and I’m extraordinarily proud of that.”

Adelson, a former GTWC America Pro class champion, said the new-look series format has been “a little bit subjective” but he’s seen pros and cons to the extended length feature races.

“Some people really like the format, others do not,” he said. “I did really think it was cool to have the two 90-minute races where you had to have your Am driver finish the race, in a Pro-Am car.

“I thought that was really cool because in top-level endurance racing that just doesn’t happen.

“The three-hour format opens the door to more strategy and the teams having a bit more of a hand in getting their cars a good result.

“It’s now more dependent on strategy to get a good result is definitely cool to see.”

While yet to announce its 2027 customer plans, Adelson indicted that Wright will again likely focus on GT3 only, despite Porsche introducing the new 911 GT4-R.

“We have a lot of GT3 programs lined up for next year and we just need to finalize the ones that we’re currently negotiating,” he said.

“We’ll see what capacity we have. It is absolutely my goal to not field a single program that isn’t run at the same quality as my own and the best that Wright has to offer.

“If we can put together a program and have confidence that it will be to that level, then we’ll do it.

“If not, we’re going to focus on the program we do have in GT3 cars and focus on that.”

Adelson Looking to Improve IMSA GTD Program; Set to Remain With Porsche

The 29-year-old admitted that his own program in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship program didn’t meet expectations, with only two GTD class podium finishes this season in the Porsche he shared with Callum Ilott.

“For my program specifically, myself as a driver, there’s a lot left to be desired for us this year, having not been in championship contention,” said Adelson.

“We’ve had some crashes, we’ve had some results that could have and should have been very good that weren’t.

“It was a sobering reminder of just how competitive it is at the top level of the sport.

“On the bright side, we’ve taken everything that hasn’t gone our way and with the things we can control, we learned a lot from.

“I’m really just focused on next year and trying to work out any kinks in both my program and my customers’ programs and continue to improve and go back to our championship winning ways.”

Adelson said it’s his intention to remain in a Porsche, despite having at least made initial explorations with other GT3 brands.

“Obviously we want to see more parity between the manufacturers,” he said. “That’s been extraordinary frustrating since last season.

“We’re just hoping that it will change.

“But with what we’ve invested with the brand and some of the collaborative efforts that have occurred between us, it’s definitely in our best interest to continue with them.”
