Rodrigo Baptista has stormed to the overall pole for this afternoon’s Pirelli World Challenge GT Sprint round at Watkins Glen International.
The Brazilian took his No. 3 K-PAX Racing Bentley Continental GT3 to a quick lap of 1:42.780 in qualifying, edging out the No. 31 TR3 Racing Ferrari 488 GT3 of Daniel Mancinelli by 0.568 seconds.
It marked Baptista’s first career overall pole, following his promotion to the GT class mid-year.
Former GT series champion Alvaro Parente made it two Bentleys in the top-three, while GT Sprint championship leader Scott Hargrove qualified fourth in the No. 96 Pfaff Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R.
Toni Vilander completed the top-five in the No. 61 R. Ferri Motorsports Ferrari
GTA pole honors went to the No. 91 Wright Motorsports Porsche of Anthony Imperato, in a class that features only two cars this weekend following the late withdrawals of both Martin Fuentes and Yuki Harata.
Race 1 for GT Sprint gets underway at 1:50 p.m. EDT, with live coverage on World-Challenge.com.
