Rodrigo Baptista led the way in opening practice for this weekend’s GT World Challenge America powered by AWS rounds at Road America, in a session that saw only two cars take to the track due to weather.

Baptista laid down a best lap of 3:03.324 in his No. 1 Squadra Corse Ferrari 488 GT3 he shares with Martin Fuentes.

It was some 14 seconds faster than the No. 04 DXDT Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo of Colin Braun, who was the only other car to venture onto the four-mile Wisconsin circuit, which was in full wet conditions.

Both cars primarily completed in and out laps, with no competitive times set.

The majority of teams, as well as the three remaining GT Sports Club America entries this weekend, elected to sit out the 60-minute session due to weather.

While rain and thunderstorms are in the forecast for the remainder of the day, both Saturday and Sunday call for mostly sunny conditions.

Most teams took part in yesterday’s pair of test sessions, which was run in dry conditions.

A second 60-minute practice session is scheduled for 2:25 p.m. CT.

RESULTS: Practice 1
