Michael Christensen set the pace in the opening day of track action at Watkins Glen International, in preparation for this weekend’s season-ending Pirelli World Challenge round.
The Dane reeled off a 1:43.921 to go quickest in Friday’s second practice session, in the No. 24 Alegra Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R.
Christensen, who was the only driver to break into the 1:43 barrier, edged out the No. 9 K-PAX Racing Bentley Continental GT3 of Alvaro Parente by 0.198 seconds.
Teammate Rodrigo Baptista was third in Practice 2, thanks to a 1:44.325 lap time set by the Brazilian, with Mario Farnbacher fourth in the No. 93 HART Acura NSX GT3.
Friday’s Practice 1 pace-setter, Toni Vilander, completed the top-five in the afternoon session.
After not setting a time in the morning due to a fuel leak, Martin Fuentes returned to action to lead the way in GTA.
All 11 cars recorded times in the 50-minute session, with no major incidents reported.
GT Sprint qualifying is set for 9:40 a.m. EDT.
