GMG Racing Acquires New Audi, Porsche GT3 Cars for 2023

GMG Racing has acquired an Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II and is anticipating delivery of a new Type-992 Porsche 911 GT3 R for its 2023 racing programs, which will span across SRO America, IMSA and USAC-sanctioned competition.

The California-based squad debuted its 2022-spec Audi in last weekend’s International GT round at Daytona International Speedway, where team owner James Sofronas captured three overall wins.

While a specific program for the car has not yet been announced, it could contest IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS races prior to the arrival of its all-new Porsche in June.

Kyle Washington is set to again compete in four series next year with GMG-run Porsches, including SRO America, WeatherTech Championship, Porsche Carrera Cup North America presented by the Cayman Islands and Porsche Sprint Challenge North America by Yokohama.

The team is expected to field as many as four Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars in Carrera Cup and Sprint Challenge next year, including entries for Todd Parriott in both series alongside Washington.

CJ Moses, meanwhile, is set to return to GT America powered by AWS competition with an Audi R8 LMS GT2, with Jay Logan also competing in SRO America next year.

GMG will be the only team in North America expected to campaign GT2, GT3 and GT4 versions of the Audi R8 LMS next year.

With Jason Bell making the switch to Flying Lizard Motorsports with his Aston Martin Vantage GT4, Sofronas’ operation is going “all in” on Volkswagen Group brands Porsche, Audi and Lamborghini next year, building on the team’s decade-long legacy with the manufacturers.

“We’re grateful to Aston Martin Racing and Jason Bell for their past two seasons with GMG, when he won the 2021 GT4 America Championship, but for 2023, it’s time to refocus and align with manufacturers where we have strong relationships and pedigree,” a team statement read.

Additionally, GMG has continued to have a strong presence at Thermal Club and is in the process of building a 27,000 square-foot trackside motorsports facility where it will be able to expand its customer service and support alongside its primary base in Santa Ana, Calif.
