GMG Racing has confirmed a three-car Porsche entry for next month’s inaugural California 8 Hours at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, including two Porsche 911 GT3 Rs for the Intercontinental GT Challenge round.
Porsche factory driver Wolf Henzler will team up with GMG regular Alec Udell in a GT3 Pro entry, while Preston Calvert, Andrew Davis and Michael Lewis are set to battle for Pro-Am class honors, also with a GT3-spec Porsche.
A third Porsche, one of GMG’s Cayman GT4 Clubsport MR, will be driven by Carter Yeung and Andy Lee in the GT4 ranks.
The Oct. 13-15 race will mark the IGTC’s fist event in North America, having expanded into a four-round globe-trotting championship this year.
“It’s exciting to be one of the first entrants in such a burgeoning championship,” said team owner James Sofronas.
“The IGTC is the next logical progression for the cars and teams in the Pirelli World Challenge, and I applaud everyone for recognizing the opportunity and organizing an event with such huge potential.
“Looking at our lineup, not only should we be contenders everywhere we go, but it’s a great testament to the quality of our operation as well as the depth of our driver development.”
GMG is the second Porsche team to commit to the race, joining Black Swan Racing, which will also enter a GT3-spec entry for Tim Pappas, Jeroen Bleekemolen and David Calvert-Jones.
