Spencer Pumpelly will make his return to TRG in next weekend’s Pirelli World Challenge season-opener in St. Pete, having been confirmed in the team’s Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 for the pair of 50-minute Sprint races.

The GT racing veteran, who claimed class victory in the 2011 Rolex 24 at Daytona with the Kevin Buckler-owned squad, is set for his first start with the team since 2012.

It is expected to be a one-off appearance, as Pumpelly was recently confirmed as co-driver to Michael Christensen in the Alegra Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R for the SprintX races.

“It’s awesome to be back with TRG and to be going for the win in St. Pete,” Pumpelly said. “Last time I raced there, I did some victory lap donuts! I’m thrilled and excited to be part of Kevin’s weekend in Florida and I think we’ve got a great chance to bring home some trophies.”

TRG entered the St. Pete weekend last year with James Davison, who finished second in Race 1 in the same Aston Martin GT3 car.

“As an event, our race in St. Petersburg is one of the highlights of the year,” Buckler said. “We have put together a formidable team and we are coming here to run up front and put on a terrific show for our friends, partners, and fans at this wonderful venue.

“We have brought out the big guns with both, the powerful TRG – Aston V12 GT3, sports car star Spencer Pumpelly, all enhanced by the speed and technology of our partner LaSalle Solutions.”

The team has yet to announce any additional 2018 programs although it’s understood it will also return to the GTS class in PWC for a potential multi-car program around the SprintX rounds.
