Alvaro Parente’s championship lead has been reduced to only two points over Patrick Long, following a points audit by SCCA and WC Vision that has stripped the K-PAX Racing driver from pole-sitting points at Lime Rock Park.

Pirelli World Challenge series officials confirmed Sunday morning that Parente had inaccurately collected seven bonus points for pole in Race 2 at Lime Rock in May.

The points should have gone to Andrew Palmer, who set fastest lap in Race 1 but did not start Race 2 due to his accident in warmup that morning. Parente inherited pole position as a result.

The change was announced less than two hours before the start of Sunday’s title-deciding Sprint GT race and also impacts the GT Teams and Manufacturers’ Championship as well.

K-PAX’s lead over Cadillac Racing has been reduced to 18 points, with Porsche and McLaren now tied in the manufacturers’ championship.

“The SCCA and PWC made a complete review of all class points Saturday evening to establish the proper point standings entering all four races Sunday at MRLS,” a statement from the series read.
