AKKA ASP led the way in the opening Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup session at the Hungaroring with four of its cars in the top six on Friday morning.

Nico Jamin posted the best time, a 1:43.939, to take his No. 87 Mercedes-AMG GT3 to the top of the timesheets for most of the 80-minute session.

Nico Bastian improved late in the session in the No. 90 AKKA ASP Mercedes to classify second, four-tenths down on his teammate. Both cars are running in the Silver Cup.

The team had two further cars in the top six, with its SunEnergy1 Racing entry fifth and SMP Racing-backed car in sixth.

Sainteloc Racing was third with its No. 26 Audi R8 LMS GT3 driven by Markus Winkelhock and Nyls Stievenart to take the top spot in the Pro-Am Cup, meanwhile.

The fastest Pro Cup entry was the No. 1 Belgian Audi Club Team WRT car of championship leaders Alex Riberas and Christopher Mies, who set a time 0.629 seconds off the pace.

They are the only drivers who could clinch the Sprint Cup title this weekend, ahead of the finale at the Nürburgring in two weeks’ time.

The session was briefly brought under Full Course Yellow for a car off track, but ran largely uninterrupted.

Free Practice 2 is scheduled for 3:25 p.m. local time.
