The race-leading BMW Sports Trophy Team Marc VDS BMW Z4 GT3 of Dirk Werner, Augusto Farfus and Maxime Martin has retired from the lead, early in the 19th hour of the Total 24 Hours of Spa.
Coming down the hill towards Bruxelles corner the rear wheels locked and Werner was sent into a spin, with the car coming to a halt on the side of the track.
Marshals pushed the BMW to a safe place, where Werner got out of the car and took off his helmet.
A gearbox failure was confirmed by BMW Sports Trophy Team Marc VDS after the incident.
The No. 2 Audi Sport Team WRT Audi R8 LMS of Frank Stippler, Nico Müller and Stéphane Ortelli has inherited the lead with less than six hours remaining in the race.
