Marco Cioci has crashed out the Kaspersky Motorsport Ferrari 488 GT3 on a restart in the 14th hour after contact with Raffaele Marciello’s AKKA ASP Mercedes-AMG GT3.
The pole-sitting Kaspersky car was a leader for much of the race so far but is out of contention with a steering issue sending it into the barrier on the outside of Raidillon.
Cioci made contact with Marciello’s AKKA ASP Mercedes at La Source, which was running second on track but effectively leading the race with technical stops taken into account.
Dominik Baumann is out front in the No. 85 HTP Motorsport Mercedes but is the only top-five runner yet to make his mandatory technical stop, which needs to be carried out before the race hits nine hours remaining.
Marciello will likely inherit the lead when Baumann’s car makes its five-minute technical stop, while Antonio Garcia runs in third position in the No. 1 Audi Sport Team WRT Audi R8 LMS.
Cioci made his way out of the car under his own steam.
The race has been placed under the safety car while the damage is cleared up, although had only just come out of a lengthy neutralization period after a collision between Adrian Amstutz and Matteo Cressoni’s Barwell Motorsport Lamborghini Huracan GT3 and Kessel Racing Ferrari.
