The Renault RS01, along with other single-make Cup cars, has been made eligible to compete in this year’s Total 24 Hours of Spa.
Monlau Competicion and Boutsen Ginion are both running a Renault RS01 at this week’s official Blancpain GT Series test days, while MN Développement entered a Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo.
While Cup cars have always been eligible in the Endurance Cup, no teams have made use of this possibility over the last couple of seasons.
Cup cars and G3-homologated cars had previously competed at Spa, but nobody had taken advantage of its eligibility in recent years (besides the Emil Frey Jaguar).
The Renault RS01 might now join this tradition, as the car is eligible to compete in the Am Cup in the race.
While no team has confirmed it’s program so far, it’s likely to see the RS01 equipped with its GT3 kit at Spa.
The RS01 was already present at Balance of Performance test days almost two weeks ago, and will be subject to a specific BoP imposed by SRO.
Both the Renault and Lamborghini Super Trofeo cars have already competed in 24 hour races, most recently the Hankook 24 Hours of Dubai.
Stéphane Ratel confirmed the RS01 will not be eligible to compete in the regular Sprint and Endurance rounds.
