Stolz Leads Free Practice 2 at Hungaroring

Championship contender Luca Stolz went quickest in Friday afternoon’s second and final Free Practice session for the Blancpain GT World Challenge Europe finale weekend at the Hungaroring.

Stolz, who shares the No. 4 Black Falcon Mercedes-AMG GT3 with Maro Engel, set a best time of 1:43.487 towards the end of the session, toppling long-time pace-setter Felipe Fraga.

Fraga and the No. 90 AKKA ASP Mercedes had been quickest for most of the 80-minute session until Stolz went quicker by just 0.084 seconds.

The Brazilian was classified second at the end of the session, the same position he and Timur Boguslavskiy registered in FP1, again topping the Silver Cup.

Stephane Ortelli and his new teammate Dorian Boccolacci placed third, ahead of Dries Vanthoor and Ezequiel Perez Companc.

FP1 leaders Christopher Haase and Simon Gachet were classified ninth, while the two Lamborghini driver pairings competing for the title – Andrea Caldarelli/Marco Mapelli and Mirko Bortolotti/Christian Engelhart – were down in 20th and 22nd.

Phil Keen and Hiroshi Hamaguchi did enough to go to the top of the Pro-Am class before the Japanese driver hit the Turn 11 barriers late in the session.

This brought out the red flag, ending the session early while the No. 519 Orange 1 FFF Racing Team Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo was recovered.

Qualifying is set for 10:30 a.m. local time (4:30 a.m. EDT) on Saturday.
