Green GT H2 Completes First Hydrogen-Powered Lap of Le Mans

An electric hydrogen-powered vehicle has lapped Circuit de la Sarthe for the first time in the history of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

This took place in between Thursday evening’s two qualifying sessions, with development driver and brand ambassador Olivier Panis completing the lap in the Green GT H2 at 9:15 p.m. local time.

Michelin provided the tires for the Green GT, but is also a technology partner and shareholder in Symbio FCELL, which developed the car’s hydrogen system.

The car previously drove a few laps of the Formula E Paris ePrix track in April, before taking to Le Mans this week.

It will return to the track on Saturday for a second demonstration lap, at 12:40 p.m.

Green GT and Michelin are also in the process of developing the H2 Speed, a supercar designed by Pininfarina and intended for circuit use. It is on display this weekend at the Michelin hospitality structure.
