Laurens Vanthoor and James Sofronas have been stripped of their GT Pro-Am class win and third place overall finish in Saturday’s Pirelli World Challenge SprintX season-opener at Virginia International Raceway, following a post-race penalty issued.

The No. 14 Porsche 911 GT3 R has been given a drive-through penalty equivalent to 40 seconds for passing under a yellow.

It’s dropped the car to a 10th place overall finish in Race 1 and third in the Pro-Am class.

The ruling, issued less than three hours prior to the start of Race 2 on Sunday, has given the No. 16 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R of Michael Schein and Jan Heylen the class victory on Saturday.

They, however, have also been handed a penalty from Race 1 for avoidable contact, but PWC officials have given the No. 16 Porsche a three-position grid penalty for Race 2 instead.

The second and final SprintX race of the weekend is set for 1:15 p.m. ET.

RESULTS: Race 1 (Final)
