Nico Jamin has claimed a sweep of the Pirelli World Challenge GTS weekend, with the young Frenchman taking victory in Sunday’s Race 2 at Virginia International Raceway.
Jamin edged out the No. 99 JCR Motorsports Maserati GT4 of Jeff Courtney by 2.076 seconds at the line, in an equally dominant performance for the ANSA Motorsports KTM X-Bow GT4 from Saturday’s performance.
Sunday’s 50-minute race, however, was interrupted midway through for the No. 3 Flying Lizard Motorsports Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport MR of Rodrigo Baptista, which stopped on track while running in fourth.
The full-course caution neutralized the field and put Courtney right on Jamin’s bumper on the restart, although bridged out a slight gap to the finish.
A thrilling last-lap battle for third between Lawson Aschenbach and Ian James went the way of the No. 50 Panoz Avezzano GT, which claimed its first podium finish in only the car’s fourth start.
Aschenbach, who ran in third for the majority of the race, was relegated to fourth at the end, with the No. 80 Mantella Autosport KTM of Martin Barkey completing the top-five overall.
Jason Bell in the No. 2 Racer’s Edge Motorsports SIN R1 GT4 picked up GTS-A class honors with a sixth place finish overall, ahead of the No. 018 Case-It Racing Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport MR of Cameron Cassels.
