Antinucci, Spinelli Take Final Poles of North America Season

Championship leader Richard Antinucci and Loris Spinelli claimed the final two pole positions of the 2021 Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America season at Misano.

Antinucci increased his lead over Stevan McAleer to 15 points by setting the fastest lap in the Pro class during each of Thursday’s 20-minute sessions, despite Pro-Am competitor Spinelli beating him in Q2.

The Dream Racing driver earned the first of his two additional championship points by reeling off a time of 1:33.249 in the No. 127 Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO, which put him a quarter of a second clear of teammate Edoardo Liberati during Q1.

Antinucci then finished second to Spinelli in the No. 151 MCR Racing Lamborghini by virtually the same margin in the next session.

Jacob Eidson and Steven Aghakhani ranked third-quickest in both parts of qualifying taking turns in the No. 106 US RaceTronics machine, which is due to start alongside the Danny Formal and Kyle Marcelli-driven No. 1 Wayne Taylor Racing car in each race.

Eidson and Aghakhani are third in the standings, 23 points behind Antinucci with a maximum of 30 available across the two 50-minute races.

Liberati’s Dream Racing co-driver Dario Capitanio took fifth in Q2, while solo competitor Max Weering claimed the same position in Q1.

McAleer and Jeroen Mul will start sixth and seventh for Change Racing.

The first Super Trofeo North America qualifying session was red-flagged in the closing stages due to an accident for Jonathan Hirschberg at the exit of the final corner.

Spinelli Also Stars in Europe Qualifying

Thursday’s track action at Misano also included two qualifying sessions to determine the grids for tomorrow’s season-ending Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe races.

Shortly after leading the second North America qualifying run, Spinelli hit the front in Q1 for the separate European series with a time of 1:32.860 in the Pro-ranked Johan Kraan Motorsports car that he shares with fellow double-duty driver Weering.

Spinelli beat Pro-Am pole-sitter Karol Basz to first place by 0.357 seconds, but his North American Race 2 pole time of 1:32.847 stood as the best across all four sessions.

Leonardo Pulcini, who leads the Pro championship alongside Kevin Gilardoni, claimed his maiden Super Trofeo pole for the final race of the season.

The Oregon Team driver registered a 1:33.214, beating Raul Guzman to the top spot by two-tenths. Guzman is sharing the No. 41 Target Racing Lamborghini with Glenn van Berlo, who qualified third for Race 1.

The second European session was red-flagged with less than 10 minutes remaining after an accident for Hans Fabri.

The final rounds of the regional Super Trofeo series will take place before the World Final this weekend, which brings together the grids from North America and Europe.
