Murillo Mercedes Dominates at CTMP; Wickens Wins Again

Murillo Racing scored a 1-2 finish in Saturday’s Canadian Tire Motorsport Park 120, in a race that saw Robert Wickens and Mark Wilkins score their second consecutive IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge TCR class victory.

Eric Foss took the No. 56 Mercedes-AMG GT4 to a 0.388-second win over the sister No. 72 entry of Christian Szymczak.

It came despite a late-race full course caution that bunched up the fields in both the GS and TCR classes.

While having started on pole, the No. 72 Murillo entry of Kenny Murillo lost the lead to the sister car during the mid-race pit sequence, although remained in a close second.

Foss, who became the first repeat winner this season, shared top honors with Marc Miller, in his first start in a GT4-spec Mercedes.

GS points leaders Trent Hindman and Alan Brynjolfsson completed the overall podium in the No. 7 VOLT Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT4, ahead of the No. 71 Rebel Rock Racing Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R of Robin Liddell.

The No. 14 Riley Motorsports Toyota GR Supra GT4, brought to the finish by Aaron Telitz, completed the top-five.

Bryan Herta Autosport Hyundais finished first through third, led by the No. 33 Hyundai Elantra N TCR of Wilkins and Wickens.

Wickens, whose wife gave birth to their first child on Friday, turned his first laps of the weekend in his opening stint, running as high as second before handing over to his fellow Canadian.

The No. 33 Hyundai of Wilkins crossed the line 0.522 seconds ahead of the No. 1 BHA Hyundai of Michael Lewis, with the No. 98 entry completing the podium.

It came despite late-race contact between Harry Gottsacker and the No. 17 Unitronic by JDC-Miller Motorsports Audi RS 3 LMS TCR of Mikey Taylor, who tangled in the final corner while battling for third in class.
