JP Motorsport has announced that it will race in Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Sprint Cup next year after canceling plans to enter ADAC GT Masters.
The Polish squad is set to field a pair of McLaren 720S GT3s in the five-round championship run by SRO Motorsports Group, with one car competing in the Pro class.
That will be shared by ex-Formula 1 driver Christian Klien and reigning GTWC Europe Sprint Cup Pro-Am champion Dean MacDonald, who joins JP from fellow McLaren squad Garage 59.
The sister car will race in a different category considering one of the drivers is Bronze-rated team owner Patryk Krupinski, who is due to share the wheel with Norbert Siedler.
JP initially announced a move to GT Masters but pulled out from that commitment when the ADAC outlined a new championship structure following its takeover of the DTM.
GT Masters, which is traditionally a two-driver championship for GT3 cars, is due to be merged with Prototype Cup Germany to form the DTM Endurance series.
“We are delighted to be competing in the GT World Challenge Europe again next year,” said JP Motorsport team manager Claude Roth.
“The race series is the highest caliber GT race series in Europe and we think the quality will increase even more after the restructuring of the ADAC GT Masters.
“Our goal is to fight for the title in the Bronze Cup with Patryk and Norbert.
“But we also want to fight for top positions in the overall standings with Christian and Dean and we are very confident that we will succeed!
“Dean has already shown his talent this year and I don’t have to say anything about the quality of Christian, a former Formula 1 driver and LMP1 factory driver.”
JP Motorsport has only announced a GTWC Europe Sprint Cup program for 2023.
It also ran two McLarens in the Endurance Cup this year but elected to skip the TotalEnergies 24 Hours of Spa.
Krupinski finished second in the Sprint Cup Pro-Am standings and mainly shared driving duties with Klien. After two rounds with a single car, JP Motorsport added a second McLaren featuring former GT3 factory drivers Dennis Lind and Vincent Abril.
Next year’s GTWC Europe Sprint Cup campaign starts at Brands Hatch on May 13-15 and also includes visits to Misano, Hockenheim, Valencia and Zandvoort.
